First 5 LA brought a fun and interactive Talk, Read, Sing Story Time to the Manhattan Beach Library on June 13, 2017 as an extension of its ongoing “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” campaign in partnership with Too Small To Fail. The event, which was simultaneously live streamed on the First 5 LA Parents Facebook page, featured special guests: author and parenting lifestyle personality, Jill Simonian; early childhood music educator Daniel Epstein of Music Together; and Potter the Otter. In addition to the Talk, Read, Sing program, guests received educational giveaways.

“I’ve got you on my surround sound at home,” commented Facebook viewer Mey Mey, “Yay!!! This is fun.” She later wrote, “I would talk to (my daughter) while in my belly and then after being born. I sang to her too and she loves music. I wondered how she turned out the way that she did. And now it makes sense.”

Another commenter, Marcia Semones, wrote, “I love when I talk to my baby and he looks at me so lovingly. Sounds like he is trying to say I love you.”

One library attendee approached staff afterward, saying that although she didn’t live in the area, she made it a point to come in person because she has been a long-time follower of First 5 LA Parents on social media. “The event was amazing…thanks for having us!” She later commented on Facebook.

To date, the video has reached over 11,500 people on Facebook and has been viewed over 3,400 times.

First 5 LA’s online events, including its #First5Chat on Twitter and quarterly #First5Live Facebook events are meant to connect parents and caregivers to information and resources that support their efforts to raise children who are born healthy and are ready to succeed in school and life.
