Summer McBride brings experience across education, maternal and infant health, labor-management collaboration, and public service. Her work focuses on supporting children and families through community-centered partnerships, systems improvement, and cross-sector collaboration.

Summer is Associate Director of the California Labor Management Initiative (CA LMI), where she supports school districts, labor leaders, and education partners throughout California in strengthening labor-management partnerships and organizational collaboration. She also serves as Chair of the Los Angeles County Public Social Services Commission.

She previously served two terms on the Culver City Board of Education, including as Board President. Summer continues to serve on several boards and advisory bodies, including the Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP, Inc.), the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative, and the LACOE Head Start and Early Learning Policy Council. She is also a proud graduate of the Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute (LAAAWPPI).

As a Los Angeles native and mother of five sons, her own birthing experiences inspired her to become a certified Community Health Worker, full spectrum doula, Centering Pregnancy facilitator, and co-founder of Strength in Tiny Steps, a Black NICU Family Circle. Summer strives to bring both professional and lived experience to her work in support of children, families, and communities.
