Knowledge is Power!
Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to giving your child the best start in life. Learning about child development, parenting skills and community resources builds confidence, enhances relationships to help children, and strengthens families. And that strength of knowledge grows when we connect with others. From getting good advice from a neighbor to getting involved in your child’s school or larger community, knowledge and networks are potent forces for positive change, for both families and communities.
First 5 LA is here to help add to your knowledge of your child. Did you know that from birth, your baby understands and communicates with you? In this Parenting Guide, we’ll explore ways to help you understand your little one, and learn how preverbal communication and language develops. We’ll look into new ways to help your child develop healthy self-respect and respect for others, whether it is through learning good manners or understanding, tolerating and celebrating the richness of diversity. And because everyone learns best with a good night’s sleep, we’re sharing new research on how your whole family can get the best rest possible.
And to help your children develop and grow their skills, this Parenting Guide has lots of opportunities for learning by doing. Try some fun Valentine’s Day crafts (which develop fine motor and early writing skills) and healthy recipes to make together (for early math learning through measuring and counting). And check out the sneak peak of First 5 LA activity calendars, book suggestions, coupons, family-friendly events, and more for your family to enjoy this winter.
Happy New Year! There’s no better time for your family to feel empowered through knowledge.
