Twitter “Garden” Party Dishes on Drought, Kid-Friendly Gardening
“I’m new at this and would love input on specific plants. Especially kid friendly,” tweeted Julie Schneider.
First 5 LA was happy to oblige those attending its Twitter “Garden” Party with gardening tips, resources for finding kid-friendly community gardens and much more.
May’s #First5Chat provided an opportunity to reintroduce First 5 LA’s social media followers to one of its investments, the Healthy Food Access Initiative, which is funding the construction of eight community gardens in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles County. Guest host Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust is one of the organizations that First 5 LA partners with on the initiative, which is administered by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps.

Acknowledging the California drought was another important part of the Twitter discussion, which provided #WaterWisely tips on how to be responsible gardeners during this dry season.
Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust tweeted “Know your garden watering days!” and Cali Julz (@CaliJulz) shared pictures of her home garden, which includes a water-saving vertical cucumber patch: “three flowers so far!! yay,” Cali said.
