Tips from Dads Like You
Celebrities aren't the only ones with ideas for spending time with young children. Dads just like you have great tips as well. Here are some questions to get you started:
- What is your favorite activity to do with your young child?
- If there's one tip you can share with other dads, what would it be?
- What's the best part of being a dad every day?
- Is there a hobby of yours that you tried to share with your child?
Here is a sampling of tips we've heard from fathers:
Hi, I'm from Los Angeles. I just try to have my kids active. We go out and play baseball, ride bikes, sometimes I do soccer, but I'll stick with baseball more. We ride bikes and we try to keep active outside, outdoors, and try to keep in shape. But we stick with baseball more.
My 3-year-old daughter, Tazia, and I like to read together, go to Spanish class and, of course, play baseball.
I've been singing to my daughter Lalani since she was in the womb for karaoke and she still loves it every night when we sing. I love going to the library and reading books together at night.
She likes me reading to her, and she likes me to take her out to the park. I really enjoy singing to her and she loves it, too, so you know hopefully, you know, we have a future star right here.
What we like to do together is drive around and sing together and, every night, we build puzzles and we like to watch superhero movies together.
I'm from West Willowbrook, and the best thing I like to do with my 2-month-old son, Jaquel, is bonding. I think that's the most important thing. Because they already bond with their mothers over the nine-month process, I think that fathers have to do it a little extra just to bond with their kids, and I say take the extra time to bond with your kids as much as you can.
My daughter, Madeline, and I like to play outside together. We have a swing that we go on, and we also go to the park with our dog, Jack. We also go to Disneyland and try to spend a lot of time together, dancing and singing, and we go to the L.A. baseball games a lot.
My son, Cameron Jr., and I love to spend time outside running around, playing soccer, staying active and keeping as healthy as possible. If I had a tip for dads out there, I would just encourage every dad to cherish the time that you get to spend with your son and be a great role model.
My favorite thing I like to do with my daughters is read books. It's very exciting to see how excited they get about reading books. We open worlds of imagination and I like that a lot. What we do to spend time together every day is have family time at dinner time. We make sure we talk about everything that happened in our day, what went well, what went wrong and what we can do the next day to make it better. One tip I have for all of you parents is never give up on your child. With anything they want to do, if they succeed or they fail, let them know that they did their best and encourage them to keep on going.
