Hot, Cold or Make-Ahead
Start the day with a filling “base” and offer plenty of “add-ins” for texture, taste and nutrition. Little ones can make breakfast just the way they like—which helps even the pickiest eaters get a nutritious start.
Make-Ahead Refrigerator Porridge (Serves 4)
This tasty and nutritious porridge “cooks” in the refrigerator and gets thick overnight—a great start for busy mornings. Vegetarian milk and yogurt—such as coconut or almond—may be used as well as dairy.
- 1 cup rolled oats (not instant or steel-cut)
- 1/2 to 1 cup milk (depending on how thick you like it)
- 1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
- 1 sliced banana
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
Stir everything together in a bowl and place into your refrigerator overnight.
