Census 2020: Take Action NOW! Be Counted!
Although the deadline to participate in the 2020 Census has been extended due to COVID-19, the actual end date of 9/30/20 is almost here. As of 7/29/2020 , the response rate in L.A. county is only 59.1% and the response rate in the state is only 64.0% percent, according to a report from Advancement Project California. Additionally, some regions in the county have a very low response rate. For example, one census tract in Pacoima has a response rate of 43.6%, with an estimated 371 uncounted households. No matter where you live, it is critical for your family to respond to the Census as soon as possible.
Participating in the Census is an easy and powerful way to help your community. Census data helps determine how federal and state funding is distributed across the country. By participating, you make sure your community receives the money and support they deserve. The Census helps decide where hospitals, schools and childcare facilities are built, while also determining funding and resources California and your community receive for programs like Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP and Head Start.
Under federal law, your family’s responses to the Census must be kept confidential for 72 years. Your responses cannot be shared or used against you by any government agency, including law enforcement and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or affect your eligibility for government benefits.
The Census is offered in 16 different languages online, by phone or via mail. To respond online, visit https://census.lacounty.gov/.
