Barbara Andrade Dubransky - Director, Family Supports

Barbara Andrade Dubransky, previously Director of Program Development, will now serve as Director of Families. Dubransky and her team will manage the Families grants and programs portfolio, and will serve as a critical thought leader on evidence-based practices and models of home visitation, parent engagement, and related strategies that increase family protective factors.

Barbara has developed and implemented many of First 5 LA’s programs and initiatives. A First 5 LA employee since 2000, Barbara was the primary architect of Best Start and led the launch and early implementation of Best Start’s home visiting components, including Welcome Baby.

Barbara earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Azusa Pacific University's School of Education and Behavioral Studies. . While completing her Master's in Social Welfare at UCLA’s School of Public Policy and Social Research, Barbara worked as a human resources manager at a private firm. Before coming to First 5 LA, Barbara worked in foster care, adult mental health, Healthy Start and staffed the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Barbara played leadership roles in the development of First 5 LA’s 2001-2004, 2004-2009 and 2009-2015 Strategic Plans and is currently leading the development of the Families Outcome area of the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan. Some of her previous First 5 LA projects include LA Universal Preschool (LAUP), KCET's Emmy award-winning show Los Niño's en Su Casa and A Place of our Own, Partnerships for Families, Baby Friendly Hospitals and Family Place Libraries, as well as other successful programs.

While at First 5 LA, Barbara continued her work with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and has held several leadership positions in the California Chapter, including the chair of the NASW Southern California Legislative Day Annual Conference and Director for Region I, overseeing activities in the greater Los Angeles area. She has also participated on the State Legislative and Diversity committees. Barbara has served as an adjunct professor at her alma mater Azusa Pacific University, teaching courses in Community Organization and Social Change, Ethics in Social Work Practice and Social Welfare Policy. 

Barbara lives in Highland Park with her husband Tom, sons Gabriel and Jesse and Dog Bo.
