Volunteering as a Family Over the Holidays

Volunteering is a special way for you and your family to give back this holiday season. As a family, “volunteering” can be as simple as helping out an elderly neighbor or pitching in to decorate a local community center. Demonstrating small acts of kindness and charity help children develop compassion and a sense of satisfaction in helping others.

Los Angeles County offers many family-friendly opportunities for volunteering during the holidays and throughout the year. Here are a few:

One Voice L.A. Holiday Program

Barker Hangar, 3021 Airport Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90405

Bring your kids to this important hands-on event to help people who are less fortunate. You and your family can help pack food for several organizations. Sign up to be a volunteer at the 2018 Holiday Food Program.

Donate to your local food pantry

Does your household have extra non-perishable or canned food items that are eligible for donation? Consider donating them to a food bank, like the Westside Food Bank. Have your little ones help you collect the cans.

Los Angeles County Toy Loan

Donate gently used toys to an organization like the Los Angeles County Toy Loan. This special program works like a library so that kids can borrow toys for a week at a time! Have your child pick out a few toys they would like to donate.

Big Sunday

This remarkable non-profit strengthens and builds community through helping. Volunteer events are typically kid-friendly and this particular organization has many holiday-inspired events coming up – preparing holiday feasts, toy donations and more!
