The issues affecting children's nutrition and oral health outcomes are complex and varied, thus, supporting the need for First 5 LA to focus on developing partnerships with other organizations, leverage existing efforts, and prioritize strategies to address these issues.
In October 2006, First 5 LA approved the $10 million Oral Health and Nutrition (OHN) Expansion and Enhancement Project which is a multi-strategy framework that will coordinate and build on other oral health and nutrition efforts occurring in LA County. Specifically, the OHN Project focuses on: - Access to Direct Services for the community that address the needs of and builds on the strengths of parents, providers, and community capacity
- Public Education which addresses the need to increase the messaging around communicating the importance of oral health and nutrition for optimal child development
- Policy and Advocacy by convening and advocating to address systems and the public/private policies that underlie these issues
