Assessment Considerations for Young English Language Learners

Printer-friendly version

First 5 LA, The Pew Task Force on Early Childhood Accountability, The Foundation for Child Development, and the Joyce Foundation co-developed three resource materials related to the assessment of Young English Language Learners (ELLs): the Assessments Considerations for Young English Learners report, the English Language Learners (ELL) Measures Compendium, and the Consumer Guide. These materials were designed to guide different types of assessment approaches for the unique and rapidly growing population of linguistically and culturally diverse ELLs. They address the important distinctions between definitions used and assessment strategies conducted within different contexts, by different professionals, and for different accountability purposes.

Resource Material Details:

  • The "Assessment Considerations for Young English Language Learners across Different Levels of Accountability" report, discusses both the considerations and recommendations for assessing ELL children, as well as limitations of many of the current assessment approaches.
