Compton-East Compton

We at Best Start Compton-East Compton are about family, our neighborhoods and our community. We are parents, residents, and all those who care about young children and families. We believe in the goodness of Compton-East Compton, and bring community members together to make a difference for our kids.

Best Start Compton-East Compton focuses on children ages 0-5 because these years are so important in a person’s life. We want to give Compton-East Compton children the best start in life, ensuring they are healthy, are safe from abuse and neglect, and are learning and growing. In order to do this, we as parents, grandparents, and caregivers need support to strengthen and improve our community. Support is what Best Start Compton-East Compton provides, and we are asking you to join us as we work together to build a better future for our community.

What We Do

Since 2011, Best Start Compton-East Compton has been working to make a difference for our children and families. We are dedicated to:

•          Increasing connections between families, residents and community leaders

•          Building skills and knowledge about parenting among family members

•          Connecting residents to Compton-East Compton services and resources

How do we do this?

We organize monthly Partnership meetings in Compton-East Compton that are open to all community members. We invite you to join us and participate in these important discussions.

What do we talk about?

At our Partnership meetings, we share information, and learn about ways to ensure Compton-East Compton children are healthy and safe. We have workshops to help parents learn how to read stories to their kids. We show films that highlight the need for healthy eating and exercise in our community.

Currently, we are working on a project called Learning By Doing, where community members are helping to build stronger social connections and support systems for young parents throughout Compton-East Compton. We need your voice in this important effort that will help the next generation to be advocates for Compton-East Compton children.

What else?

We are out in the community, providing information about local resources, and distributing educational materials to families. We talk to parents and residents about what they can do to make a difference for Compton-East Compton.  We also organized our own event - “A Stroll in the Park” - in 2013 to raise awareness about park safety and healthy lifestyles.

We are building bridges and reducing feelings of isolation that some of us may feel.  We provide all our information in both English and Spanish and have interpreters at our meetings.  We provide a family-friendly environment and welcome you to take part, ask questions, share and learn.

Please Join Us!

Join us at one of our monthly Partnership meetings!  These are local meetings in Compton-East Compton at places like the Compton Unified School District and the Tower of Faith Church. We provide food and interpretation, and also transportation and childcare by request and if you let us know at least 3 days in advance.

Come and learn, and make new friends. Change can start with our own families, and you can make a difference!  We want what’s best for our kids and together we are making Compton-East Compton a better place to live.  Be a part of the change. Join the conversation. Take action and help us to ensure Compton-East Compton children grow up safe, healthy and ready to learn.
