Vista Del Mar School Readiness Program
Vista Del Mar’s READY by 5 school readiness program, in collaboration with community partners, provides services to underserved children 0 to 5 and their families in zip code 90034. The goal of this collaboration is to foster optimal child development by: 1) supporting parents as the primary caregivers and educators of their children; 2) nurturing parent-child relationships; 3) providing training, technical assistance and support to family child care providers; and 4) developing a collaborative partnership among families, schools and the community that fosters school readiness so that children will be successful in school and in life.

Program efforts focus on sustainable strategies that will have an impact beyond the grant period. Direct services to children include: 1) Assessment and developmental screening; 2) Subsidized child care; 3) “Ready for School” groups; and 4) Parent-child education and support groups. Other services provided by the program are: 5) Case management and linkage to early care and education, health and social services in the community 6) Outreach and community education in order to engage families, children and community members in the school readiness process; 7) Parent information meetings/workshops; 8) Facilitation of a positive transition to kindergarten for children by providing workshops for early childhood and elementary school; 9)Training and technical assistance for family child care providers; 10) Consultation to teachers, caregivers and parents; and 11) Parent and community involvement activities including parent-to-parent peer mentoring and implementation of a community coordinating council.
