Vaughn Next Century Learning Center, located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). After converting to a public charter school in 1993, Vaughn pushed public school reform to its limits with the approval and support of LAUSD. The center was awarded the California Distinguished Schools Award in 1995 and the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award in 1996. Support services such as home visits with literacy learning kits; Motheread Program; School-linked social services to assist all families; adult education; parenting classes, ESL, GED; comprehensive screening and early intervention for children with language delays; search and serve activities and referrals to the Regional Center; Health Assessments and referral; nutrition network activities; and Pre-K to K transition activities. |
