The agency provides family preservation services, mental health services, residential substance abuse treatment, substance abuse services, vocational education services and youth services primarily for families who live in the South Central Los Angeles/Compton area. Los Angeles, CA 90061 http://www.shieldsforfamilies.org Funding For: Shields for Families Child Development Centers SHIELDS for Families operates three perinatal substance abuse treatment programs that offer cooperative child care centers on-site for children 0-5 who have been exposed to substance abuse prenatally or environmentally. Partnerships for Families SHIELDS for Families, in collaboration with its partners, proposes to implement ACT: Achieving Change Together, a Partnership for Families Program, for high risk families referred from the DCFS Wateridge Office in SPA 6 (zip codes 90001, 90002, 90003, 90011, and 90044) and high risk pregnant women referred from the community. The program has three primary components: Direct Services, Internal Capacity Building and External Capacity Building. The Direct Service Component is designed to provide a community-based, one-stop, comprehensive, collaborative and culturally competent continuum of services. All services incorporate the Family Support Principals and are provided using a family strength-based approach. In addition, services are offered in English and Spanish, are home, community and/or centered based and include: case management, concrete services, linkage to intensive services, family education and support, early child care and education and referrals to auxiliary supports. |
