Program Funding: School Readiness, Family Literacy
 
The district administers adult education and K-12 education services for people of all ages who live in Rowland Heights, and parts of West Covina, City of Industry, La Puente and Walnut.  There are no geographic restrictions for the adult education classes.

Funding For:
Ready, Set, Go! School Readiness Program
The purpose of this grant is to promote the idea of school readiness by creating centers and programs that offer an array of services, including early care and education, health and social services, parenting education and support. The target population includes six target schools that lie within La Puente or unincorporated county territory located in SPA 3.  The community can be described as having high unemployment rates, high numbers of English Language Learners, several hundred homeless children. Most of the children qualify for free/reduced lunch. The primary site for this program is the Rowland Family Resource Center. Major program activities include:  PAT program for children 0-5 and their parents, Story Mobile Resource Van to stage literacy activities in target neighborhoods, identify, and train home childcare providers, language and speech therapy for children with special needs, case management assistance including helping families access medical services, Kindergarten Transition Program, comprehensive transition program for teachers including staff articulation, and a parent leadership council.

Rowland Unified School District Family Literacy Program
Rowland Unified School District is extending its current services of providing a four-component, comprehensive family literacy program with school-based, community-based and home-based services to service approximately 27 additional families and/or working members of existing families by increasing the intensity of the existing program components in the area of technology and vocational training to better meet the needs of program participants at Farjardo, Hurley and Northam Elementary Schools.

La Seda School Family Literacy Program
Rowland Unified School District is expanding their current 4-component Family Literacy program that is currently operating at the above listed three sites to La Seda School in order to add an Early Childhood Education/School Readiness program for three-year-olds and to increase the intensity of all Family Literacy Program components being provided.
