Mothers' Club Family Literacy Project
Mothers' Club Community Center has provided a four-component family literacy program. The majority of the families are Spanish speaking immigrants with limited English language skills and a low level of formal education. With the First 5 LA funding, the organization provides the four components of a family literacy program in Pasadena. Parents take parent education classes once a week in English and in Spanish. They also take part in weekly parent support groups led by licensed psychologists, to help them deal with the frustrations and anxieties that accompany parenthood. Their children from 0 to 5 participate daily in the high-quality early childhood education program.
