Program Funding: Healthy Births, Community-Developed Initiatives
 
This agency administers the WIC program at ten sites for residents of the Compton, San Antonio, South, and Southeast Health Districts of Los Angeles County. This service area includes Compton, Downey, Huntington Park, and neighboring communities, including portions of South Central Los Angeles.

Funding For:
Hospital-Based Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Support Project
The Hospital-Based Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Project aims to help low-income mothers successfully initiate and continue exclusive breastfeeding through activities that focus on the hospital stay and the early days postpartum. Mother-to-mother peer counseling services are provided to all newly delivered mothers at four hospitals to encourage exclusive breastfeeding for the infant. The collaborating hospitals are King-Drew, Harbor-UCLA, Mission Hospital in Huntington Park, and St. Francis Medical Center.

South LA Best Babies Collaborative

The South LA BBC is a program of the LA BioMed Research Institute, a part of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center,  whose mission is to promote healthier pregnancies, birth outcomes and interconception care in South Los Angeles by strengthening linkages between community-based medical and social service providers. The SLABBC will provide services to women and teens in South Los Angeles focusing on zip codes of: 90001, 90002, 90003, 90011, 90037, 90044, 90059, 90061, 9020, 90221, 90222, 90255, 90262, 90280 and the communities of: Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Compton, Huntington Park, Los Angeles, Lynwood, and South Gate.
