The center provides early childhood education, mental health services and welfare-to-work support services for youth and families. Contact Information: 10155 Colima Rd. Whittier, CA 90603 http://www.intercommunity.org Funding For: Early School Success The purpose of this grant is to promote the idea of school readiness by creating centers and programs that offer an array of services, including early care and education, health and social services, parenting education and support. The target population for this program is children 0-5 and their families in the Montebello community in zip code 90640 (SPA 7). Montebello is predominately a Latino community.. Economic status and education attainment go hand in hand with 62% of the city's adults receiving a high school diploma or less formal education. 12,405 residents (20%) receive public assistance and 1,534 children under 5 live below the federal poverty guidelines. Major program activities include 2 bilingual 10 month twilight preschool classes for 144 children, 6 week bilingual home to school transition program for 240 children, new bilingual summer child care for 240 children of teen parents, new case management for 400 children, and new staff development for 26 infant/toddler, preschool and kindergarten staff, a new collaborative network between ICGC, MUSD and other collaborative partners and expanded bilingual parent education and support for 624 families. |
