Contact Information: 1515 E. 104th St. Los Angeles, CA 90002 (323) 564-1233 http://www.lausd.net Funding For: 90002 Ready For School (RFS) is one of nine School Readiness Initiative (SRI) programs administered by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). This RFS program originally was administered by a local community-based organization. The mission of RFS continues to be to partner with families, communities and providers to create and sustain a cohesive and inclusive school readiness support system for children age birth to 5 years and their families. To achieve this, the program will continue to be centered on Ritter, Grape, Weigand, Compton and Joyner elementary schools, low-performing schools in the Watts community identified in Cycle 1 with a score of 1 on the 1999 Academic Performance Index. Services include: Home visitation program for 25 children age 0 to 5 focused on early learning skills to address parents' desires to know how to help educate and prepare their young children for school; Early learning skills in child care for RFS parenting classes; Parenting education about age-appropriate developmental milestones, special needs and identification of developmental issues for 12 parents of children ages 0 to 5; RFS outreach workers to provide coordinated outreach to 200 children ages 0 to 5 and their families about early child care and available slots to meet the need of many parents who indicated a lack of knowledge about availability of early care programs; RFS outreach worker to provide coordinated outreach to 200 children ages 0 to 5 and their families about early child care available; Training for child care provides on how to work with special needs children; a Learning Resource Fair to provide education on available services to 150 parents of children 0 to 5 from diverse cultures in conjunction with Locke RFS. « Back to LAUSD |
