Preschool Teacher of the Year
Because the work of preschool teachers is rarely remembered but incredibly critical, I was happy to hear that our contract agency LAUP made a special point of recognizing the excellent work of exemplary preschool teachers throughout Los Angeles County. LAUP held a Preschool Teacher of the Year Award ceremony last Tuesday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to highlight for the community not only the excellence of a few, but also the long-term impact an excellent teacher can have on the lives of children.
LAUP received about 100 applications for this award, and candidates were nominated by people associated with the nominee's preschool. To win the award, nominees had to demonstrate a strong commitment to a quality preschool education and dedication to making a positive contribution to the children they serve.
I’d like to join LAUP in congratulating the following winners:
- Debbie Frohmuth, who teaches at Glendale Community College Child Development Center in Glendale
- Janelle Holt, who teaches at The Play House West Children Today Preschool in Long Beach
- Keone Kealalio, who teaches at Temple Isaiah Preschool in Los Angeles
- Emmy Patty Linares, who teaches at the Clinton Head Start Foundation for Early Childhood Education in Los Angeles
- Darla Pulliam, who teaches at the Center for Early Education, Office of Child Development, Culver City Unified School District in Culver City
- Gadierx Vassallo, who teaches at Washington Elementary School, Pomona Unified School District, in Pomona
