The Primary Way to Help Your Child is to Vote
In preparing to vote in the California primary on February 5th, I encourage everyone to keep children’s issues in mind in considering whom to support. Voting is one of the most powerful ways to advocate for our children. As we move towards electing a new president, remember that we are choosing a leader not only for ourselves, but for our children as well.
Issues that impact children span from education to healthcare, but they can be easy to forget as we focus on more "adult" problems. We must remember that eight million American children remain uninsured and, as was mentioned in last week's article in the ZERO TO THREE/Pre-K Now report, this country lacks a coordinated early education system. These problems can be turned around if our elected officials decide to tackle them as important issues. And it is up to us to elect a leader who will decide that they are.
First 5 LA has a policy agenda which we use to guide our advocacy work with politicians. Please explore the section of our Web site that is dedicated to policy, and read our policy agenda. (pdf)
