Staying Connected in the New Year

Evelyn Martinez Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I'd like to start the new year with a recommendation on how to stay connected to your community. California First Lady Maria Shriver has an informative Web site dedicated to assisting families in becoming financially secure by connecting them to important programs and resources.

Several of these programs, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), are available and accessible to working families but many are not taking full advantage of them. This leaves more than a billion dollars left on the table each year. This money could have been used by working families here in California.

Shriver's WE Connect campaign, of which the Web site is only a part, is an effort to connect families with the information and tools they need to take full advantage of these valuable resources. To learn more about WE Connect and the resources available, visit: www.weconnect.net.
