The Darker Side of Motherhood: Treating and Understanding Postpartum Mood Disorders
Westside Infant-Family Network is hosting a two-day training during which attendees will learn how to: differentiate between Baby Blues and Postpartum Depression, identify the six postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, list intervention strategies when a woman is suffering, name at least two psychiatric medications commonly used for nursing mothers and the medications' side effects, list at least two alternative/natural strategies for recovery, demonstrate the skills to verbally deescalate a suffering mother in the moment - identify appropriate statements that may be helpful and recognize inappropriate statements that may cause further harm, explain how collaboration of professionals can be done effectively, learn the risk assessment skills - when it's appropriate to hospitalize a mother and when it can often be avoided, differentiate between postpartum obsessive-compulsive disorder and postpartum psychosis, and list at least two therapeutic techniques to relieve a suffering mother's anxiety.
Event date: September 24, 2010 and October 15, 2010
Event time: 9am - 4pm (Both Days). Please note that this is a two part training taking place on two separate days, while we do encourage you to register for both trainings, we are accepting registrations for one training day.
