San Gabriel Valley Roundtable Forum on Obesity

August 26, 2009

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and threatens to impact the health and well-being of numerous children and adolescents. Research shows that while the rising trend rates cut across all social classes, the prevalence of obesity is higher and the severity of consequences from obesity-related diseases is greater in certain places, and among certain populations. California's Latinos are disproportionally affected by obesity and its complications.

The purpose of this forum is to encourage multi-sectoral involvement and community engagement among San Gabriel Valley communities impacted by obesity. This forum brings together a network of regional and local health care advocates, health care service providers, and community leaders to share principles for action that will address the obesity epidemic in Los Angeles' most impacted Latino Communities.  Complimentary lunch and parking will be provided.
