Providing Developmentally Supportive Care at Home after NICU Hospitalization

March 23, 2009
Project ABC presents Kathleen A. VandenBerg, PhD. This workshop is for community professionals, child care workers, parents and foster parents who work with or care for infants who were initially hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit at birth and who are now followed by a variety of community programs.

The format includes background information and basic principles of developmental care for high risk newborns who are ill (full term or premature) or healthy (premature). Additionally, a strong emphasis is placed on assisting parents in their interactions with these infants.  Faculty will describe behavioral patterns and approaches to providing individualized attuned developmentally supportive environments and interactions for infants. Transition to community resources is also discussed. The workshop is based on the FIRST Program, Family Infant Relationship Support Training Program, ( Browne et al, 2000).
