Preschool Teacher of the Year Award Application Due Date

In 2008, Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) created the Preschool Teacher of the Year Awards to recognize the contributions of preschool teachers in Los Angeles County and to highlight the importance of a quality preschool experience. A quality preschool education can make a lasting contribution to the success of a child in school and in life. Teachers play a critical role in a child's social, educational and emotional development by nurturing a child's confidence, inspiring their imagination and creativity, and advocating for the well-being of their children and families.

The Los Angeles County Preschool Teacher of the Year Awards will be given to five outstanding preschool educators during the Week of the Young Child, a national celebration held each year to honor young children and thank early childhood teachers and all those who make a difference in young children's lives. The Teacher of the Year Award honorees will be recognized at a celebration hosted by LAUP on Thursday, April 23, 2009.

IMPORTANT DATES

• March 20, 2009 - Applications due; must be received at the LAUP office no later than 5:00 p.m.
• March/April- Preschool site visits to top finalists.
• Early April 2009 - Award winners notified.
• April 23, 2009 - Celebration event to recognize award winners.
