It Sounds So Easy but It's Hard to Do: Relationship-Based Practice in Early Intervention Supporting the Parent-Child Relationship in Home Visiting is presented by Victor J. Bernstein, Ph.D., School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago. This workshop is for home visitors to learn and apply principles for developing the best possible relationships with families and one another in order to support the development of the children receiving early intervention. Participants will learn:
- To recognize how their stress and that of the family affects themselves, and what coping strategies they can use to maintain their effectiveness and enjoyment of their work.
- Learn strategies for supporting one another when stressed and coping strategies to see difficult situations from a more positive perspective.
- Techniques for sharing their observations and asking questions non-judgmentally.
- Principles of how to develop nurturing, supportive relationships at every level of program operation, for example: Manager-supervisor, supervisor-home visitor, peer-to-peer, home visitor-parent, and parent-child.
