AIA Teleconference Series: Parents Challenged by Substance Abuse Part 2

June 10, 2009

Part 2. Strategies for Increasing Recovery Rates

Fifty percent of chemically dependent clients drop out of treatment prematurely, 15 percent are administratively discharged, and 80 percent who relapse do so within the first 90 days. Addicted parents face particular stressors that increase the risk of relapse, including the challenges of parenting in early recovery and guilt about child maltreatment during active addiction. Topics include 10 Strategies for Helping Parents Successfully Complete Treatment and Recover, and the Use of Evidence-Supported Practices and Incentives to Improve Retention.

This teleconference is presented by the National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center.
