AIA Teleconference Series: Parents Challenged by Substance Abuse Part 1
Part 1. Effective Motivational Interviewing Methods for Engaging Clients
Parents receiving public services are often reluctant to address either their parenting practices or substance abuse, which can create difficulty with engagement and slow the rate of both recovery and family reunification. This training applies motivational interviewing principles to involve parents and families in treatment and in counseling. Topics include 10 Strategies for Increasing Parents' Motivation to Recover, and Using Principles of Motivational Interviewing in Short-Term Treatment and In-Home- and Community-Based Settings, among others.
This teleconference is presented by the National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center.
