2009 Childhood Obesity Conference: Creating Healthy Places for All Children

Over the past three decades, the proportion of overweight children in the United States has almost tripled. Among preschoolers, the prevalence of overweight is about 14%; children 6-11 years, almost 19%; and adolescents aged 12-19 years, over 17%. Approximately one in three children and one in four teens in California is estimated to be overweight.

To address all factors related to childhood obesity, this conference includes research and evaluation; community perspectives (programs, coalitions, and the built environment); pre-school, school and after-school programs; policy (media advocacy, legislation, marketing, health equities, funding, and food insecurity); parents as role models, educators, and advocates; and clinical management and resources.

Many of the conference materials are still up on the website at www.childhood-obesity.net. The program guide is up as well as the power point presentations for those who submitted them. Just click the button to the left of the screen that reads “workshops” or “mini-plenaries” and you can see which presentations have power points available to download.
