Taking Time

The holiday season can be so busy that many parents miss out on spending time with their children – which is sadly ironic because this time of year is supposed to be devoted to family and other loved ones. It’s important to remember that the best gift a parent and caregiver can give is love, attention, and nurturing. This holiday, make it a point to spend precious time with a child doing creative, stimulating, and productive activities. Here are some fun ways to bond with children:
  • Sing carols and other holiday songs together.
  • Get children involved in measuring ingredients for cooking and baking holiday treats.
  • Decorate the house by using crafts you create together.
  • Get children involved in measuring ingredients for cooking and baking holiday treats.
  • Use shopping time as a time for learning. Talk about the colors, objects and smells that you experience while out and about.
  • Ask your child to help wrap a present.

I encourage parents and caregivers to embrace the excitement of the holiday by integrating early learning activities that benefit children into the tasks of the season.
