The new strategic plan that will guide First 5 LA investments to 2015 includes multiple countywide strategies that will support our place-based investments and allow us to impact all children in the county. Countywide strategies are focused on building public will and changing policies to support children and families, as well as improving and better integrating the multiple systems from which they benefit

First 5 LA countywide strategies are:

  • Public Education
  • Workforce Development
  • Data Systems Integration
  • Systems Integration
  • Policy
  • Information and Referral
  • Health Access

One critical component of the countywide effort is Systems Integration. The goal of this strategy is to facilitate better and more efficient connections between the multiple systems that touch a family, so they are better able to leverage resources amongst themselves and better assist families in need.

First 5 LA recognizes the need to ensure that systems supporting families are strong, easy to navigate, responsive and family-centered. Sharing of information and resources by multiple providers from different sectors to address the needs of young children and their families can help to bring about systems integration. So can developing policies and procedures that facilitate geographically accessible or responsive service delivery to families.

First 5 LA will support specific systems efforts throughout the county that have the potential to more effectively integrate and leverage health and human services for children and families. A scan of integration efforts in development, or occurring within L.A. County, is being conducted to recommend the most promising and feasible systems efforts in terms of supporting young children and their families.
