The new strategic plan that will guide First 5 LA investments to 2015 includes multiple countywide strategies that will support our place-based investments and allow us to reach children throughout the county. Countywide strategies are focused on building public will and changing policies to support children and families, as well as improving and better integrating the multiple systems from which they benefit.

First 5 LA countywide strategies are:

One of the most practical elements of the countywide strategies is Data Systems Integration, which will improve the quality of information available to county and community agencies. Through data systems integration, First 5 LA will seek to improve the quality of services available to families by helping agencies share data in an effective and efficient way while still protecting individual privacy.

Data collection may not always seem like a natural part of delivering services, but collecting data is vital to ensuring that quality services are delivered and that funders continue funding those services over time. In this age of accountability, more and more funders, including state and federal funders, request data about a program's success. Proper data collection can make the difference between a program getting funded or not, and can also help an organization improve its own service delivery.

First 5 LA's efforts around data systems integration will primarily begin at the community level, as we start to facilitate information sharing with our grantee organizations. Our countywide effort will support data sharing among county agencies that serve children and families.
