Now is your chance to shop for the holidays and support literacy efforts in Los Angeles County at the same time! As part of our Read Early, Read Aloud campaign, First 5 LA has partnered with local Barnes & Noble stores to provide books for families who don’t have them. If you shop this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at any of the participating stores and give the cashier a Read Early, Read Aloud flier or mention First 5 LA, up to 25 percent of all proceeds will go to book gift card donations for children 5 years and younger.

The Read Early, Read Aloud partnership with Barnes & Noble encourages families to start reading to their children early and often, and to help build a home library by buying books as gifts for the holidays. Building a home library is important because it communicates to children that books are valuable items that should be collected and enjoyed over and over again.

Participating Barnes & Noble stores are in the following locations:

  • Third Street Promenade
  • Glendale Fashion Center
  • Del Amo Fashion Center
  • Marina Pacifica Mall
  • Old Town Pasadena
  • The Grove at the Farmers Market
  • Westside Pavilion
  • The Woodland Hills Promenade
