First 5 LA works continuously to reach parents of young children with important educational messages. While we do this on a daily basis with the help of our grantees, we also work to reach wider audiences through news coverage in newspapers and on radio, television, newspapers and blog sites. In the last few months First 5 LA has worked with several media outlets to get our message out. Below are some of those successes. Univision/KMEX-TV Channel 34's "Primeria Edicion" June 17, First 5 LA staff members were interviewed as part of a three-hour segment that focused on pre-school options for kids and featured interviews with representatives from other organizations. Phone calls from viewers were encouraged during the programming and the 1-888-First5-LA number was placed on the screen throughout the segment. Staff spoke about the importance of preschool and early childhood development and First 5 LA's commitment of $580 million to early childhood education. Public Affairs and Grants Management department staff covered a range of topics in live interviews, including Healthy Kids insurance, Healthcare Reform, early education, the state budget crisis and threats to First 5 LA funding.
