 Parents are always looking for low cost, educational, safe, healthy, and most of all, fun activities for their kids. To help meet these needs, First 5 LA created Ready. Set. Grow!, a dynamic program to assist parents find resources in the community. The program started last year with a focus on encouraging parents to bring children to various educational, recreational and child-friendly places at a discount rate. First 5 LA launched its larger second phase recently with the new Ready. Set. Grow! Family Guide, an eight-fold bilingual brochure, and a new parent friendly Web site: www.ReadySetGrowLA.org. The Family Guide's two bilingual versions are English/Spanish and English/Mandarin, and feature free and low-cost activities for kids, discount coupons for entertainment and educational venues around L.A. County, a healthy food recipe, information on area Farmers' Markets and much more. Available in both English and Spanish, the Web site contains expanded versions of what is listed in the family guide, links to more family-oriented venues around the county and links to parenting resource Web sites. The family guide, printed in partnership with East West Bank, will be distributed to bank visitors at 62 East West Bank locations. The guide is also available through Women, Infants and Children (WIC) centers, L.A. County "Family Place" libraries, area farmers' markets and many First 5 LA grantees.
