Last month First 5 LA held informational booths at several community events and conferences in an effort to reach the families of children ages 0-5 and professionals who work with them. - As part of her continuing work to improve the lives of children and their families in L.A. County, L.A. City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel offered free medical and dental screenings, immunizations and other services at her Fifth Annual Child Health and Safety Fair on October 12th. In addition, Councilwoman Greuel and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa awarded First 5 LA a certificate of recognition for being a sponsor of the event.
- To help educate residents on health epidemics and how to prevent and manage them, California Assembly member Kevin de León, assistant majority leader, hosted a Health and Fitness Fair on Saturday, October 11th, in his district. The fair provided residents with free medical screenings, health examinations, and exercise clinics, alongside live entertainment from local bands and free giveaways.
- Gloria Steinem, Warren Buffett, Bono, Madeleine Albright and 14,000 women joined First Lady Maria Shriver for The Women's Conference 2008. First 5 LA joined First 5 California to reach out to all those attending.
- First 5 LA and ICAN combined efforts, hard work and expertise to eliminate domestic violence and child abuse while promoting loving and healthy families at the NEXUS XIII Training Conference October 30th.
