First 5 LA's weekly e-newsletter, the Monday Morning Report was recently nominated for best non-profit or foundation newsletter in L.A. County by the Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter (PRSA-LA). PRSA, headquartered in New York City, is the world's largest professional organization for public relations practitioners. The awards contest, called the PRism Awards, included 215 entries in 59 categories.

NBC4 Weathercaster Fritz Coleman served as master of ceremonies for the 2008 PRism awards banquet, which was held at last week at the Hilton Universal City. The theme of the awards banquet was "Innovation, Inspiration & Imagination," and welcomed more than 300 attendees, representing the various organizations entered in the contest.

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the PRSA evaluated the entries, and winners were announced at the banquet. Other finalists in the non-profit/foundation newsletter category were Biola University's Biola Magazine, and The California Wellness Foundation's Portfolio.

PRSA has more than 32,000 members — more than 500 of them in L.A. — including representatives from business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and non-profit organizations.
