| LOS ANGELES---The First 5 LA Commission today approved the one-year funding of $2.9 million for Cal-Learn, a program designed to help teens who are pregnant or have young children finish high school. Gov. Jerry Brown's state budget package eliminates most of the Cal-Learn's funds for at least the next year. The First 5 LA support will partially address the loss of state funds and allow the continuation of services to teenagers most in danger of dropping out receive the help they need to complete a high school education. Cal-Learn currently serves about 3,200 high-risk teens, who are parents to more than 3,000 children under the age of 5. | |
