In 2007, First 5 LA established the Families, Friends and Neighbors Training and Mentoring Project for Child Care Providers (FFN) as part of the early care and education Workforce Development Initiative. Reaching out to licensed, exempt neighborhood caregivers with child development information, the program teaches children that may not be part of a formal program crucial skills needed to enter Kindergarten successfully. Because informal caregivers play an important role in this process, they are trained on ways to engage children in learning activities.

More than 200 caregivers involved in the FFN program graduated from each of the six respective grantee sites. First 5 LA attended one of the graduations at the Children's Bureau, where many said the program had changed their lives. By the end of the project, First 5 LA anticipates more than 600 providers will be served. Click here to view images from the graduation.
