Fall Family Guide: Read Early, Read AloudDecember 5, 2011 |
Printer-friendly version |
Sure, most people know that reading books to and with children is a great way to boost their brain development and get them ready for school. But there is so much more to early literacy than reading aloud: singing, writing, playing and talking are all important activities to do with young children. Reading and literacy activities can happen almost anywhere, and at any time!First 5 LA's and Ready. Set. Grow!'s Fall Family Guide, which coincides with the Read Early, Read Aloud early literacy campaign, is here and packed with all kinds of ways parents and caregivers can explore books, reading and learning. It includes an ages-and-stages guide of songs, games and other activities, plus information about libraries, reading on the go and free or low-cost events. The bilingual Family Guide will be available through libraries, WIC centers and some of First 5 LA's grantees and partners this week. An online version can be found at our Ready. Set. Grow! parenting website, along with past issues. (And here in Spanish.) If you want your organization to be a Family Guide distributor, please e-mail info@ReadySetGrowLA.org to request copies and join our future distribution list. |
