Evie's Desk: Passing Along the Gift of LearningDecember 12, 2005 |
Printer-friendly version |
The holiday season can be so busy that we don't have much time to spend with our children. This holiday, give the gift of learning to a child by spending precious time in creative, stimulating, and productive activities: • Borrow holiday books from the library and read stories together. • Sing carols and other holiday songs together. • Play "Santa Says" instead of "Simon Says" to help your child learn to follow directions. • Share simple craft projects such as holiday cards, picture frames made from Popsicle sticks or snowmen from cotton balls. • Help children draw pictures of favorite holiday memories and stories. • Get children involved in measuring ingredients for cooking and baking holiday treats. I encourage parents and caregivers to embrace the excitement of the holiday season by spending time on early learning activities to benefit children.
