Evie's Desk: First 5 LA Holiday Greetings

In this joyous season of celebration and giving, I want to acknowledge the tremendous contributions of First 5 LA partners, grantees, friends, and staff during this past year. As First 5 LA enters its seventh year, we have much to celebrate—successes too numerous to recount among the programs and services provided by more than 300 grantees and strategic partners with whom we have collaborated to improve the health, education, and safety of young children in LA County.

As a funding organization, we have the awesome responsibility of allocating financial support to key areas that strengthen families and improve the lives of the smallest and weakest in our community—our children. We can be proud of how our efforts are making a difference for families, and we can anticipate many new challenges in the coming year.

For now, I want to encourage you to simply enjoy the season. Let's take a moment to ponder our capacity for joy.     

Take in the dazzling decorations. Feast on tasty treats. Sing beautiful songs of the season. Bask in the love of family and friends. Accept with grateful hearts the gifts we receive and are able to give to our loved ones.

Most importantly, reflect upon the spirit within us that can make peace on earth and peace in our souls truly possible.
