First 5 LA funds within our three goals of Early Learning, Health, and Safety through a variety of initiatives that are designed to accomplish specific measurable objectives for improving the well-being of the population we serve.

Our Funding Center information will keep you posted on new funding and contract opportunities, as well as explain our funding guidelines, requirements and procedures.


Current Funding Opportunities
There are often opportunities for funding from First 5 LA to support programs and services for children ages 0-5 and their families. This section describes our current funding opportunities.

  • Community Opportunities Fund
    The Community Opportunities Fund supports two types of activities: organizational capacity building and policy and advocacy. First 5 LA seeks to fund long-term sustainable changes for Los Angeles County's young children and their families by investing in organizations to build their capacity or conduct activities intended to improve policy efforts.

Future Funding Opportunities
This section describes our future funding opportunities.

  • Oral Health Community Developement (OHCD) Project
    First 5 LA's Oral Health Community Development (OHCD) Project is based on the commission's priority to improve children's oral health. The OHCD Project aims to prevent dental decay in children through community water flouridation and related public education and advocacy activities.

  • First 5 LA Fiscal Year 2009-2014 Strategic Plan RFQ
    First 5 LA is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit groups or individuals to work with staff and Commissioners to develop the First 5 LA Fiscal Year 2009-2014 Strategic Plan over a 12-month period (September 2008-August 2009). In partnership with staff, the selected applicant(s) will facilitate strategic planning activities and prepare a strategic plan to further define how the Commission can best impact the lives of young children and families in LA County. **Please be aware that the Application Checklist (page 18) has been revised.
  • Executive/Specialty Search Firm RFQ
    First 5 LA is issuing this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to select an executive/specialty search firm to conduct recruitment of senior management-level position(s) within the organization. Applicants responding to this RFQ must have the qualifications, experience and demonstrated success in placing senior level professionals.
  • School Readiness Initiative Technical Assistance Provider RFQ
    First 5 LA is issuing this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to individuals and groups interested in working with our staff to develop and implement a Technical Assistance Plan for programs funded under the Commission’s School Readiness Initiative (SRI). Applicants must have experience providing technical assistance to both schools and community-based agencies, and extensive knowledge of systems and programs serving young children.
  • Investment Advisor RFQ
    First 5 LA is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to qualified Investment Advisors with experience in the management of public and private sector funds to perform a risk assessment of the various securities permissible under the provisions of Government Code Section 53601 et. seq., and perhaps provide investment advisory services. Investment Advisors will be supporting the goals and objectives of First 5 LA'S Strategic Plan by helping First 5 LA maximize the revenue needed to fund the Strategic Plan. RFQ's will be reviewed by a combination of external reviewers and First 5 LA staff. It is anticipated that the contract will commence on September 1, 2008.
  • Healthy Births Evaluation Consultant (pdf)
    First 5 LA is issuing this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to individuals and groups interested in working with our staff to engage in an evaluation planning process with Best Babies Collaboratives in the Commission's Healthy Births Initiative (HBI). First 5 LA's HBI Expansion Project is based upon the Commission's commitment to improving pregnancy and birth outcomes in Los Angeles County by creating a comprehensive, integrated model of continuous perinatal care for at-risk women throughout Los Angeles County.
