Healthy Kids Program Evaluation

The Urban Institute and its partners - the University of Southern California, the University of California at Los Angeles, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., and Castillo & Associates - are conducting an evaluation of the Healthy Kids Initiative. The study encompasses both qualitative and quantitative components and examines issues related to Healthy Kids access and utilization over time.

Longitudinal Household Survey

Survey results describe children and families participating in Healthy Kids, parents' satisfaction with the program, impact of program on new and established enrollees and implications for service delivery across two time points.

Parent Focus Groups

Two waves of focus groups examine experiences of parents with children enrolled in Healthy Kids, Medi-Cal or no insurance in accessing healthcare.  Parents' perceptions of the Healthy Kids program are highlighted.

Case Studies

Over 40 key informants representing First 5 LA staff and Commissioners, policymakers, providers, administrators, advocates and researchers share their views on Healthy Kids' implementation as well as challenges in sustaining the program.
